You must have Java from Sun installed ( install java).
The package is absolutely required. The latest Friend release is compatible with all Java versions 1.4.xx, 1.5.xx and 1.6.xx, while older Friend releases may not be compatible with the latest Java versions. Please see the download page for information about Friend and Java version compatibility.
To check whether you have java installed and its version please type
'java -version' in a 'Command Prompt'.
- Download Friend-xxxx file for Windows. The downloaded file should have the extention msi.
- Register (free) to
obtain Friend serial number, this is requiered for installation.
- Doubleclick on msi-file and follow the
installation wizard.
- Run Friend by doubleclicking the shortcut on the
desktop (it might crash first time, try again).

- Download Friend-xxxx binary file for Linux. The file must have extension .bin. Make the file executable by command 'chmod +x friend-xxxx.bin'.
- Register (free)
to obtain the Friend serial number, this is requiered for installation.
- Run binary installation file.
- Run Friend by typing
'./<friend_version>/friend'. For convinient usage we suggest you
to set up an alias to the friend executable, for
example
alias friend '/usr/local/friend/friend-xxxx/friend'
